Draft possibilities

As you all know, I'm not one for taking McFadden, but I've decided to break down the possible moves that we have with our number 4 pick.

  1. Get McFadden- McFadden wouldn't be a bad move, and I agree he can play multiple positions including a needed WR, but if we get him, he'll play RB the most. And we don't need a RB. He would however be a great player in what appears to be an explosive offense in the making. Grade: B+
  2. Get C. Long- I do not think he'll be here but just in case, I thought I would break this down. Long is an outstanding DE and would have an immediate impact for defense. Unlike Gholston, he'll most likely be an all-down end. Plus, he's the son of Howie-freakin'-Long. Grade: A+
  3. J. Long- I don't know much about Jake other than that Gholston can run him over. I don't know what the blocking scheme was in Michigan but I do know this guy is a big help in the run and pass game, has great body strength, and even if they didn't run ZB in Ann Arbor, he's got a whole offseason to learn. Grade: B
  4. V. Gholston- Now I personally believe that if C. Long is gone, we should take Vernon. He'd probably only be used on pass downs but is decent in run D. He's got amazing speed, decent size, and can bust a QB. He's not as good as Long however. Grade: B+
  5. Trade pick- Now this is what I really think should be done. But only if we can't get any good picks for Washington/Jordan/(insert preferred player here) By no I'm sure everyone's heard of the whole Dallas deal, so I won't go into it. grade: A+
  6. G. Dorsey- Glenn is not really needed, especially with all the D-Line moves we've made. But if (highly unlikely) Long/McFadden/Gholston are gone, this is merely a back-up plan. Dorsey can play pass rush and stop the run. Grade: C
If you think I've missed something that deserves a higher grade than a C, please inform me.

Don't Tease Me Kaiser!!
Why put C. Long there?  We all know hes gonna be gone.  You must like breaking hearts!  Jerk!

I kid... I kid...

I think we all know C. Long is the dream pick, regardless of who would be the best pro.  I think McFadden will have the biggest impact for a team that uses him correctly, but C Long has to be the choice regardless, if he is there.  Its a match made in heaven.  Not only is he a Long, but he is the best player at our biggest need, DE!  Not the best player in the draft, but for our need....

I agree
I think Long is a 3 down player. You can use him on all 3 downs. Now a days with DE being less weight then tight ends its rare to see somebody who can stop the run as well as have a good pass rush. Also he covers in a zone very well. I'm not saying hes the next big thing but he will be a very good addition to the Dl that is looking pretty solid with another DE. Gholston is a monster but he doesnt stop the run. Obviously we need help with the run. With Kelly going back to DT we will be more solid. But I bet Al throws the old monkey wrench in there and we trade the pick.

Trade the pick...
But not with Dallas. There is a rumor floating around that the Bengals and Raiders will swap pick 4 for 9 with the Bengals giving the Raiders the disgruntled Chad Johnson. This would make a lot of sense and WOW, what a trade. The Bengals would unload their "Randy Moss" and the Raiders would have an offense that could not be stopped to go with a defense that can't be passed on. At #9 we still could draft Ellis or possibly Harvey.

There will be a hundred rumors
most of which are from drunken sportswriters dreaming up something to write.  As we all know, not many teams trade out of the early picks because most  other teams do not covet a player so much they will give much for the pick.  If you think about it, so many players are over hyped and do nothing it doesn't make sense to trade up.   More often than not, a player we haven't even heard of will perform better than some over hyped player taken in the top 10.  I suspect we will go into the draft without trading out of the pick.

I agree
It would be VERY good to trade the pick but it is so unlikely because of, yep you guessed it, Al Davis. Trading it to Dallas would be best, after all, if the rumor was true we would have way more picks and not Chad Johnson. Do you people realize how much we would have to pay for him, not to mention his on and off field shinanigans. UPDATE: Bad news everyone, I hear Dallas is close to getting Pacman Jones. This means trading Washington to them (which I've heard Al is trying to do) may no longer be an option.

That is a stupid trade by the Cowboys, unless they
have an inside source that Jones will be reinstated this year.  If Goodell extends his suspension for another 8 games, Dallas is screwed

I doubt they are giving much to get him
so for them it is probably a risk they are willing to take.  At some time Pacman will be reinstated, and although he comes with a ton of baggage he is a talented corner, not easy to find.  Al did that for years with good results.

Just read where the Raiders
signed Kalimba Edwards, a defensive end from the Lions. He has some nice stats, appears to be a lot like Clemons, led the Lions in sacks two different times, 7 one year, 6 1/2 another.  It sure looks to me like Al does not plan on drafting a defensive player with the 1st pick.  They have added a lot of linemen in the off season either through free agency or signing their own.
The only caveat might be Gholston drafted as a linebacker.  Jake Long or McFadden might now be a possibility.  I cannot see them drafting Dorsey.
This is a good time in Raiderville.  Things are happening and Al is putting his stamp on this team.

Edwards KILLED Us In Week One:
He had two sacks and a forced fumble.

Kalimba who?
I've never heard of him. But if he did all that when the Lions had Shaun Rogers in the lineup, he must be good. I just hope he can stop the run. UPDATE: Dallas plans to give an unnamed player and 7th. round pick for pacman and they're very close to getting a deal done.

CHECK THE DIARIES!!!
I put up a diary detailing Kalimba Edwards, and the likely reasonong behind the pickup.(MCFadden!)

Al's mandate is McFadden!

Washington to where now?
Nothing would entirely suprise me on what Al will do. With many pick ups I see al going offensivly which means Jake Long or Mcfadden...

On one hand you have a new Franchise quaterback you want protected.

On the other Al loves speed.

I as much as anyone hates that we missed out on Calvin Johnson and Adrian Petterson last year. But I don't really think Mcfadden will have the same impact as those 2.

I honestly think Mcfadden will be a top RB in the league no question. Would I love to have him on our TEAM? Yes I'd be thrilled. But when you just pay a RB who had a break out season to a new contract. You have a Prospect on the back burner ready to go who would of gone in the 1st barring injury. A vet who showed promise and got paid to come here in Rhodes. And your feature back who is still on the roster. The move just puzzles the hell out of me. If we were solid in about every position I am all about taking Best Player available over need. But we drafting 4th overall for a reason.
