Oakland Raiders News: Chris Long @ ATT Park With Ryan

One of the contributors at NinersNation saw Long with Ryan at the Giants Game last night.

"I went to the Giants game last night

and Chris Long was there with Rob Ryan, defensive coordinator for the Raiders. Considering reports on ESPN that the Dolphins are negotiating a contract with JAKE Long, I thought this was interesting.

I don't think that the Rams can pass on either Dorsey, Gholston or Jake Long...Maybe Chris Long will be in Silver and Black...Well, One can dream can't they!?!?!

Chris Long would be the cure for what ails this franchise most. Long would give this team an instant identity...oh yeah, and a pass rush to go along with our newly revamped passing defense.

I know that there is not one person who bleeds silver and black who would pass on Howie's son if he fell into their laps on April 26th.

The words you never hear surrounding Chris Long, Work-out Warrior (Scout terminology for potential steroid abuser), Me First (He has been a model teammate by all he's played with) and Potential (Scout term for lazy, dumb or inexperienced).

I am a HUGE believer in DNA and drafting Hall of Famer's kids. There is just something about being raised around the NFL culture and learning from a HOF dad that gives them an advantage, not to mention the apple doesn't always fall far from the DNA tree.

What do you think Raider Nation? Would you take Howie's Kid over the Arkansas Flash?

Hello Raider Nation
I am said contributor from Niner Nation. They showed the two of them, along with some other Raider people that I didn't recognize, on the Jumbotron so I'm sure anyone else who saw the Giants play against the Padres on Wednesday saw them, too. At first I thought it was weird since everyone pretty much has the Dolphins taking Chris Long first overall, but with the recent news that the Dolphins are negotiating contracts with Jake Long and Vernon Gholston, maybe there is a chance he falls into your laps. I imagine this would be your top choice.
Of course the Dolphins may be setting up a smoke screen, either trying to get someone to trade up or trying to get a better contract out of Chris Long if they do decide to pick him.

I still am doubtful
I think the Dolphins will take J. Long, then the Rams will take C. Long, Falcons with M. Ryan and finally the Rayduz getting D. Fadden. That's just how it'll most likely go.

C. Long at AT&T Park with RR
Saint..wrong, I would take J. Long over C. Long because we have to protect a rookie like QB and the existing Raider line ain't going to do it.

We cant draft Jake since he'll be gone
AND Jake Long doesn't fit into the zone blocking scheme
After my umbilical cord was cut, silver and black spewed out!!

If Chris is available
you have to draft him over anyone else.  Too much history with his father, and besides a lineman has a 10-12 year career, a running back only 5 or 6, it is a no brainer.

Good Point Chinabob
But is that really true. I think a back last a good 9 to 10 years. But ya, thats a great point. And, you never know when they might retire. (Tiki Barber)

I should have said
a running backs effectiveness is 5 or 6 years at most.  That is if they don't blow a knee before that.  Shane Alexander is a classic example.  MVP a few years ago, still in the league but totally ineffective now, and Seattle looking to get rid of him as soon as possible.  Watch for Tomlinson to become average within two years, he was good last year but the signs were there, not as explosive, a step slower.

well
I Do believe we need chris long. Cause if anyone thinks that the raiders havent thought about him for a while is crazy. dont be surprised if he is going to be taken off the board the raiders make sure they get him. Why else would we sign Kelly? So he can go back and be the DT that he should be. he is not an end. We all know you need 2 fast DE's thats where long will fit perfectly. With burgess. This Defense will be solid. and You dont need more offense linemen. I saw alot of promise from Mcquistan last year. Gallery looks comfortable. The run game will give jamarcus time. If im not mistaken we went 5 games in a row without giving up a sack

You must really want to make your point. However, Chinabob makes a good point. Look at Priest Holmes. Once he hit 30 all his talent went away. It's a well known fact that RBs run out of juice at around age 30.

those are all great point
about aging RB's but i wouldnt pass on Mcfadden because of all the hype he comes with.  and if he ends up being a great player, it will payoff in the long run. now, i think great o-linemen are hard to come by in the 1st round.

RUN DMC!!
Yeah running backs run out of juice,  but with the ridiculous depth at running back we could distribute the carries.  Chinabobs comment is very true and because of this you have started seeing teams successfully running a two back system.  Bush and Mcfadden both are young and would solidify the running game for years to come.

thunder and lightning, the two headed monster or my favorite a winning team

Since we don't retire numbers
it would be great to get Long and change numbers with Mario Henderson.

#75, Long sounds awesome to me

We have the makings of a shutdown defense and still have some great RBs in our stable.

I want to see the return of Tatum-sized hits on other teams that are foolish enough to come across Oakland.

DMC
I understand what you are all saying about Mcfadden, but you can get a great back later in the draft. Running backs are deep this year. If you really want to go thunder and lightning we could get Steve Slatton in the second round. Ray Rice even. We dont need to waste this pick on a running back. We should get Jake or Chris Long if possible.

Don't forget Gholston
I still say Gholston if Chris Long or Jake Long is not there.
