There can be no better Opening Day for a Raider Nation than hosting the Denver Broncos on Monday Night. Period.

It will be the last game played in Week One and every eye will be glued to the Silver and Black and our loyal Nation. Fantasy Numbers, parlays and office pools will keep the fans across the "Other" Nation tuned in while Al unveils his 2008 squad.

Thank You Schedule makers.

Getting Buffalo in week 3 is also a blessing because I would hate to go in there in December and try to run our offense or stop theirs.

Once again, Thank You Schedule Makers.

The best part about this schedule is that we will have home games for nearly a month straight!!!

From October 19th to November 9th we will get the Jets, Panthers and Falcons IN OAKLAND and play only one road game, in Baltimore.

This is the gelling point. A 3-1 or 4-0 run through this part of the schedule will set the season on FIRE with 7 games left and will build the momentum that the team will need to knock off three tough road teams San Diego, Denver and Tampa and also deal with New England in OAKLAND on December 14th.

How does this schedule sit with the Rest Of You, Raider Nation?

As I mentioned a month ago
this is the easiest schedule the Raiders have had in 4 years.  It is set up for a 10 win season, but now they have to prove it.  They cannot fall flat against the teams they should beat which has been a problem for a few years.  I like getting NE late in the season, by then the Raiders should have established some continuity.  They just picked up another DB today, knee deep in DB's.  They have 5 picks in the draft, no 2nd or 3rd and not much chance to get one.  I am assuming that guys like Jordan, Wash. Stu will be shown the door but doubt if they will get any picks for them, or at best a 5th or later.  Other than the 1st pick the team as it now sits is what you have.  I think it is good enough to contend, now let's show it.  IT is on Russell's shoulders now.

Raiders draft board...
Will almost certainly not be as it stands now. I'll call it now and say that they will not just make their pick at #4, then go home for the day and return in day 2 and just start in the 4th round.
They will, (depending on who they take with pick #4, assuming they don't trade out)trade current players and/or next years draft picks to get into this years 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Al has shown that he no longer has the patience to tolerate the status quo any longer.

We are in WIN NOW MODE!! We're not done yet forming this team - This is not the team as it sits now...Expect more shock and awe.

Go Raiders!!

Yeah... but
They will have more later wins than early 'cause of the fact of chemistry. They have an offence that is capible of taking the Raiders to the playoffs but yet they don't know eachother quite that much. It will take more than Training camp and preseason to check all that stuff out. I say about 5 or 6 games we'll see some wins! (Not that we won't see any early just not as much.)

Well...
If you're saying a 5 or 6 win season, that's bad. Kiffin is gone and after this year so is Knapp.... Kiffin won't survive another losing year. I say there's a chance for AT LEAST 2 wins prior to the horribly early bye week. Then we can go 4 POSSIBLY 5 in a row with wins. If not Carolina, definitely Miami (God I hope so, I'll be there). And definitely 2 more in the later half...soo...that's.. 8+ wins. And other than SD standing in the way, but maybe (quite possibly) Turner will screw them up...we could possibly take the AFC West...and still...we are the FIRST wild card team to go to the bowl and WIN!!! against the Eagles too, mwahahhah!

I should have been more clear...
Well I didn't mean that they would go under .500 I think they will go 8-8 or more cause of who they're playing. I hope they beat the patriots tho :P. This year is the rising year for Raider Nation.

7-9 - 10-6
Which will probably be enough for Kiffin to keep his job.

Damn the Bolts
anything over 6 will keep his job. And dont get too excited yes the schedules easy but we still havent played that well the last 4 years. But last year we at least had a chance to win in every game but 4 thats a good stat. we had leads in the 4th in every game but 4. Raiders can sneak a wild card this year i dunno about the division we gotta beat the bolts before that happens.

It all depnds on the QB
The Raiders can run we know that.  They have a decent receiving corp, we know that. The defense has really been bolstered, but who knows how much.   The difference between 4 and 10 wins is very small in the NFL.  You can easily make the argument the Raiders should have won 8 games last year, just a mistake here or there cost them the games.  We had McCown for god's sake playing QB.  The team didn't look all that bad with Culpepper and he was crippled.
Before the season starts Russell should have played at least a half in 4 games, enough to get a feel for the offense.  The Raiders only need to score a TD more per game than last year for success to come.

How true is that
There were SO MANY close games last year. I couldn't stand our defense just fall apart. And what happened to the Raider's offense prowess. We use to always have elite offenses with players like Tim Brown, Cliff Branch, Bo Jackson (though only for a short time), Kenny Stabler; just to name a few of the more famous. There are somethings we have to take in to consideration however.
  1. Draft: Teams can get better in the draft, a lot better (Vikings) which could hamper our schedule.
  2. Free Agency: Here's a perfect example; we all say the Saints defense will be nothing. But look who they picked up. Jonathan Vilma (amazing LB from da Jets), and Randall Gay (funny name but above average corner)
  3. Training Camp: players and systems mesh together to set up teams for the new season. Remember, it's not always the best players, but the right players in the right system.

We can start off the season right
with a prime time win against the Ba-Donks!

I really think we've improved upon last year's team which took it to the Jackasses at the end of last season.

The Raider Nation is the only Nation.

In the NFL teams go from
good to bad very rapidly, and the reverse is also true.
GB went from 4 to 12 or 13 wins from one season to the next, even the Browns went from 4 to 10 in one season.  Teams go to the Super Bowl one season, the next they don't even make the playoffs, it is the nature of the NFL in this era.  Injuries, free agency all play a major part in this.  It is not unreasonable to think the Raiders will win 10 games this year no matter what the experts say.  Major free agency pick ups,  two players drafted last year who didn't really play, Bush and Russell.  Add a favorable schedule and the chances are good the Raiders will turn this season around.
