Every single Cowboy fan that I speak with is drooling over the possibility that McFadden will be running for "The Boys" next year. It seems that they have read the same articles that all of us have. You know the ones. The ones that talk about how Jerry Jones is infatuated with McFadden because he is a Razorback. The ones that say Jerry Jones will trade his two first rounders, a second this year, a second next year AND Julius Jones in order to make that happen.
In my opinion, "It is ALL HAWG-WASH".
Reason #1:
What many of these people are NOT looking at is the fact that NOT ONLY did McFadden declare, but so did another, "Hawg", Felix Jones.
Jones has eclipsed 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons, even though he has been the back-up to Darren McFadden.
Last season was his best. In 2007 he scored 11 touchdowns while amassing 1,162 yards on ONLY 133 carries (8.7 ypc).
Jones figures to be around when the Dallas selects at #22.
Reason #2:
Dallas needs another Corner Back and Receiver and there are a few playmakers that figure to be around at #30.
Either Antoine Caison, Mike Jenkins, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or Leodis McKelvin figure to be available at the CB position.
As far as receivers go, I'd expect Adarius Bowman, Devin Thomas, Mario Manningham or Andre Caldwell to be around in the 2nd.
For the purposes of this draft, since the CB position is thinner that the wide-outs, let's say that they take Antoine Caison or Rodgers-Cromartie in the first.
Reason #3:
DJ Hall SHOULD be available when they select in the 2nd round.
Reason #4:
Julius Jones would now be tradable and may land another 3rd or 4th round pick in what promises to be a VERY deep draft.
Reason #5:
They would keep next year's 2nd round pick.
Recap:
So, let me ask you this, "Is Darren McFadden worth Felix Jones, Antoine Caison, DJ Hall, Julius Jones and next year's 2nd Rounder?"
Call me crazy, BUT, I just DON'T see it happening unless Jones is drafted before #22.
