Raiders Video Highlight Fix: Greg Townsend Edition

When Hue Jackson talks about building a bully one of the players that pops into my mind is Greg Townsend. Townsend was relentless. His motor never quit and he played with his tachometer pegged. But for as dominant as Greg Townsend was, he is a bit of an afterthought in Raider history, and definitely one in NFL history.

Townsend retired with 109.5 sacks, which makes him the Raiders all-time leader and 16th in NFL history. Townsend recorded double digits in sacks in seven of his first nine seasons. But he was far from a pass rush specialist. This guy was solid against the run.

I see more than a little of Townsend in Matt Shaughnessy—especially in the swim move coming off the edge. I can also see Shaughnessy and Lamarr Houston teaming up for the next decade on the Raiders' defensive line much the same way that Townsend and Howie Long did. Enjoy this fine highlight package:
