The first wave of announced cuts are a bit of a surprise. Walter McFadden and Lito Sheppard were both released. This is good news for Sterling Moore. The fact that Moore may make this team is a testament to Hue Jackson's statement that on-field performance was going to be the determining factor in cuts.
Moore has consistently been the one Raider backup CB that has made plays.
What does not lend credence to Hue's statement is the fact that Lito Sheppard was cut before Joey Porter. Sheppard's late acquisition meant that he was only able to get on the field for one game in the preseason, but in that one game he vastly outperformed Porter.
Porter may have been the worst player on the field against Seattle. He was easily tossed aside in coverage and he whiffed on several tackles. Meanwhile, Sheppard was not spectacular, but he showed solid instincts and closing speed.
I'll still be surprised if Porter makes this team. We will find out shortly.
