Darrius Heyward-Bey back practicing

New, comments

Darrius Heyward-Bey returned to the practice field with his teammates Tuesday. According to media on hand, including Paul Gutierrez of CSN Bay Area, DHB took part in stretches and was working with the first-team offense.

DHB is recovering from a vicious hit to the jaw by the crown of Steelers' safety Ryan Mundy's helmet in their week three home game. DHB was knocked unconscious and laid on the field motionless for several minutes. He was then taken from the field on a stretcher where he was hospitalized overnight with a concussion and neck strain.

He had not practiced all last week and only made an appearance on the sideline on Friday before the team trip to Denver.

It is pretty miraculous after the hit he took that he would be back at practice just over a week later. It is unknown if he has been cleared for full contact but my guess would be he's not.

The Raiders have a bye week so there is no need to rush DHB back into full contact. However, by next week I would expect he would return to practicing full and be in the starting lineup when the Raiders travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons in week 6.
