Raiders dominate Chiefs for sixth straight win at Arrowhead

New, comments

The Raiders headed to their home away from home, Arrowhead Stadium and left with their sixth straight win at Kansas City.

It was another hard-fought game that started out ugly and came together at the end. The Raiders had a similar type game last week against the Jaguars and considering both opposing teams were coming off bye weeks, it makes sense.

Things didn't get off to a good start for the Raiders. Carson Palmer went right at former Raiders Stanford Routt on the first play and Routt made him pay, intercepting the ball. But the Chiefs were unable to do anything with it and punted it back to the Raiders after a three and out.

The Chiefs had Brady Quinn starting the game. But he didn't last long. Rolando McClain came in on a rush and sacked him. The ball was knocked loose and Quinn was hurt. He stayed in the game one more play and on that play, he threw an interception to Matt Giordano.

The Raiders would capitalize on the interception with their second field goal of the game and when the Chiefs came back out on offense, Matt Cassel was the starting quarterback.

Cassell was playing pretty well but he couldn't overcome the Chiefs' problems. They were the league leaders in turnovers coming into the game and they looked every bit of it. They soon had their second turnover when their return man muffed a punt. This time the Raiders would not settle for a field goal. Carson Palmer hooked up with Denarius Moore for their first touchdown of the day.

They would take a 13-6 lead into halftime.

After halftime, things really went awry for the Chiefs. Whatever plans they had for the second half would be shot when they fumbled the very first snap. The Raiders took over in scoring position and added a field goal to go up 16-6.

The Chiefs would make it interesting with a decent drive which ended with a 52-yard field goal to pull within one score of the Raiders. But that was as close as they would get.

The Raiders took the ensuing kickoff 80 yards down the field capped by a 32-yard catch and run for a touchdown by Darrius Heyward-Bey.

The Raiders held the Chiefs down the remainder of the game and added another interception for a total of four takeaways on the day. The Chiefs added a late touchdown in garbage time for the final score of 26-16.

Darren McFadden went over 100 yards for the second time this season. He finished with 114 yards on 29 carries.

McFaddens's counterpart, Jamaal Charles, was on lockdown by the Raiders' run defense. He finished with five carries for four yards. He and Peyton Hillis combined for nine carries for 27 yards. Most of the Chiefs' 102 total rushing yards came on end-around plays and quarterback scrambles.

Philip Wheeler led the Raiders in tackles with 11. He a sack, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback hurry.

The Raiders have now won six straight games at Arrowhead stadium. They pull to 3-4 on the season which is currently tied for second place in the AFC West with the San Diego Chargers and a half game out of the division lead with the Broncos (3-3) playing tonight.
