Raiders WKRAP in Cincinnati

New, comments

Carson Palmer was booed from the moment he took the field at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. Actually, he was booed every time he took the field. But if the Bengals fans had known how lopsided this game would be, they might just have cheered him.

This game was pretty much over before it began. The Raiders came out stagnant on offense and weak on defense in the first half.

On offense, the Raiders had a total of four first downs. Carson Palmer was constantly under pressure, his receivers are dropping the ball, and the play calling made vanilla seem exciting. Even Marcel Reece couldn't get it going.

The Bengals on the other hand, had no difficulty laying waste to the Raiders defense. They scored touchdowns on three of their first four possessions. Then with time winding down, the Raiders offense looked like it might be able to at least put a field goal on the board but again, Palmer was under pressure which caused a high pass that was tipped by Reece and intercepted. After the return and a catch, instead of the Raiders heading into halftime with a field goal, it was the Bengals who would add one. The score was already 24-0 at halftime.

The Raiders actually played well in the third quarter. They came out and finally put some point in the board with a field goal. All the while the defense held the Bengals offense to four straight three and outs. The final three and out had the Bengals punting from their own end zone which would give the Raiders field position near midfield. They drove the short field and scored on their first touchdown. But that was as close as they would get.

Come the start of the fourth quarter, things went bad. The very first play of the fourth quarter, Carson Palmer was stripped and the Bengals took the ball. They would get a field goal out of it to make it a three score game at 27-10. Then there was a couple of terrible calls by the officials which included a clipping that didn't happen, an inadvertent whistle which took away a possible forced fumble returned for a touchdown, and a huge scrum that had three players ejected. Read more about that here.

Had the forced fumble and return touchdown been allowed, it may have been a closer game. But it was still well out of hand for the Raiders. The Bengals would add one more touchdown to win going away 34-10.

Carson Palmer saw his streak of 200 yard passing games broken in this game as he finished with just 164 yards through the air. The Bengals fans have to feel pretty good they have their revenge over Palmer for forcing a trade last year.

The Raiders fall to 3-8 on the season with little hopes of improving their dismal play.
