With how lopsided this game was, you would never guess that both these teams are among the worst in the NFL.
The Chiefs offense could do nothing in the first half. They didn't have a single first down or a single play in Raiders territory. No team in the NFL this season had been held without a first down for an entire half. They got their first 1st down on their first drive of the third quarter. On that drive they also got into Raiders territory for the first time but the drive ended when they couldn't convert on fourth and goal from the nine yard line.
The Raiders defense sacked Brady Quinn four times by four different players - Lamarr Houston, Philip Wheeler, Andre Carter, and Tommy Kelly. Joselio Hanson intercepted him once which the Raiders turned into points on a 50-yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal.
Stopping Jamaal Charles was the primary focus of the defense for the Raiders and they succeeded big time, holding him to 10 yards rushing on 9 carries. Charles now has a total of 14 yards on 14 carries in their two meetings this season. This after he had gone for over 100 in his last three games and averages 5.7 yards per carry on the season.
The Chiefs had a total of 119 yards from scrimmage in this game (109 passing). It's the fewest yards the Raiders have given up in a game since 1975.
Though they were held scoreless, they had a good shot to score late when Darren McFadden fumbled on a short catch and they recovering in scoring position. But they could do nothing with it and chose to go for it on fourth down and couldn't convert for a turnover on downs.
The Raiders offense couldn't get into the endzone in the game but they controlled the clock completely doubling up the Chiefs in time of possession 40 minutes to 20. Darren McFadden ran for over 100 yards for just the third time this season. The last time he had over 100 yards was when the Raiders last faced the Chiefs in week 8. That was also the Raiders last win.
The Raiders nearly had two 100 yard rushers with Mike Goodson gaining 89 yards on 13 carries for 6.8 yards per carry average.
The Raiders improve to 4-10 on the season with two games remaining this season. It means the Chiefs are mathematically certain to finish last in the division.
