Sebastian Janikowski received the most votes among AFC kickers by the fans but the fans are only 1/3 of the vote. After that it was up to the players and coaches to decide who got in.
After all sides were counted, it was Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson who was named to the Pro Bowl with Janikowski being named first alternate.
Janikowski was named Special teams player of the month for October and Special teams player of the week in week 15 against the Chiefs when he scored every point for the Raiders on five kicks. Also in that game, he moved into sole possession of third all time in kicks of 50 yards or more. He hasn't missed a kick inside 50 yards all season, in fact.
Janikowski led the NFL in field goals made (31) and had the longest field goal of all the top kickers in the NFL (57). Dawson was 6 for 6 outside 50 yards but didn't attempt a field goal longer than 53 yards. Janikowski only had one miss inside 60 yards on the season. The other two were from 61 and a would-be NFL record 64 yards out.
He also had eight more touchbacks than Dawson, hitting on 53.6% of his kickoffs compared to Dawson's 39.2%.
