Raiders free agent C Satele signed by Colts

New, comments

The Raiders have seen a run on their free agents this offseason. The latest to sign elsewhere is former starting center, Samson Satele, who agreed to terms with the Colts today.

It is a three year, $10.8 million contract with $5 million guaranteed according to the Associated Press.

The Colts typically employ athletic offensive lineman and being that Satele was considered the best athletic center left in free agency, the move makes sense. The Colts are losing former 12 year starting center Jeff Saturday who will either be joining Peyton Manning in Denver or opt for retirement.

What this means for the Raiders is they will either move Stefen Wisniewski from left guard to center or look for a center in the draft. Newly acquired guard Mike Brisiel also has experience as a center so he is an option as well.

Satele was the Raiders starting center for the past three seasons and had survived the shift from zone blocking back to power blocking. The Raiders will be shifting back to the zone blocking scheme this season but Satele did not last through this shift.
