Raiders Lechler named to All-Fundamentals team, gives back to his alma mater

Raiders All Pro punter Shane Lechler along up with USA Football has donated a $1,500 equipment grant to the football program at East Bernard (Texas) High School, Lechler's alma mater.

Lechler was named to the USA Football All-Fundamentals team last season along with 26 other players in the NFL. Each player honored is given a $1500 grant to be used on sports equipment at the youth or high school program of their choice. Lechler chose to use the grant on his high school football program at East Bernard.

Lechler's earned the award for what USA football is describing as his

extraordinary punting mechanics and leg action make him an important contributor to the Raiders' success. With balance and good posture, the Oakland punter's catch, drop and leg snap is one fluid motion that young punters can mirror to become more fundamentally sound.

USA Football's objective is to promote core football fundamentals in helping the advancement of youth player's performance and safety. The independant non-profit organization has educated more than 75,000 youth football coaches across the US through its online courses and single-day coaching clinics since 2006 and provides $1 million annually in equipment grants and subsidizes youth league volunteer background checks. They host more than 100 football training events annually offering education for coaches, skill development for players and resources for youth football league commissioners.

The USA Football All-Fundamentals Team was assembled by a five-person selection committee headed up by Chairman and NFL executive Carl Peterson, spokesperson and NFL analyst Charles Davis, Advisory Committee member and UCLA head coach Jim Mora, board member and NFL analyst Merril Hoge, and former head coach and NFL analyst Herm Edwards.
