Darren McFadden offers advice for rookies

New, comments

Darren McFadden and the Raiders are fresh off their final mini camps of the season. The NFL Network show Total Access had the McFadden on their show this week to discuss various topics. Among them were having a whole offseason after having no offseason training programs last year, his advice to incoming rookies, LaDainian Tomlinson's retirement, and the biggest threat in the division. Here is what he had to say.

New coaching staff in Oakland, how nice is it to have a full offseason with them?

"Like you said, we have a new head coach in there, pretty much a whole new staff from top to bottom but they've been doing a great job. I'm looking forward to getting out there with them this season. Just being around and be able to work out with everyone during the offseason and not have to be in different places. You can get the timing down with your quarterback, receivers can get on the same page so it's really been a great deal for us."

Advice for this year's rookies?

"One thing I would tell them is try to pick the people you have around you the right way. You can't have everybody around you. A lot of people want to hang around and it leads to other things. Just keep honest people around you and keep them around you to keep you humble."

Your thoughts on Tomlinson and what he was able to do for so long in the NFL?

"Just being a running back and seeing what he done so long in the league, I admire what he's done. He has so many records that he set and he's just a great guy to be around and I'm sure he's a great teammate. I'm very glad he had a great career and I wish him the best.'

Biggest threat to Raiders in AFC West?

"For the AFC West, everybody's coming to play football every week, I can't just put one thing on any team. It's one of those things you have to come out prepared every week. You can't take a game off, you have to be prepared every week and come with your ‘A' game every week."
