Oakland Raiders hot seat watch: Brandon Myers

For the past three seasons, Brandon Myers has been the Raiders backup tight end. His first two seasons he played behind Zach Miller and last season he backed up Kevin Boss. He even got a few starts while Boss was out with injury last season.

He has been running with the first team thus far in OTA's as the defacto starter. I don't expect this to continue into training camp, however, as it is pretty clear that second year man, David Ausberry, has surpassed him as a receiver in this offense.

Ausberry looks to be the odds on favorite to start at this point. But I also expect the team will look to add another tight end to the mix. There are still some good names on the market. My favorite for the job would be Visanthe Shiancoe. Another guy out there is Jeremy Shockey.

In the likely event of the team adding a free agent tight end like Shiancoe or Shockey, it would have Myers slipping to third on the depth chart. The other tight ends currently on the Raiders' roster are Richard Gordon and rookie tight end Kyle Efaw. I don't see Gordon offering much in competition but Efaw has looked pretty decent in his short time thus far.

The one thing that may work in Myers' favor is his work on special teams. That will play a large role in whether or not he hangs on with the Raiders.
