The first week of the Raiders preseason simply looked like...well, the first week of the preseason. But all those things the Raiders should have tightened up for the second game. But with just two complete practices between the Monday Night preseason opener and the Friday game two road game, it is clear that wasn't enough time to work out the bugs.

If you looked at just the numbers, it would appear the first team was dominating this game. They played the entire first half and over that period, they had more first downs (14-5) than the Cardinals as well as more rushing yards (77-29), passing yards (107-24), third down coversions (4/9-2/5), led in time of possession 21:38-8:32, and fewer penalties (2/17-5/57).

And yet at halftime the Raiders trailed the Cardinals by a score of 11-24. How did that happen you ask?

Well, they gave up a touchdown on the Cardinals first drive, for starters. Then after the Raiders had a long drive of their own, they couldn't punch it in. Despite reaching first and goal at the one, three straight plays and they couldn't reach the endzone. They would settle for a field goal.

Things started to look up at that point for the Raiders. They sacked Kevin Kolb in his own endzone to forced a safety and then had another drive. But yet again, they couldn't get in the endzone and settled for a field goal. This would give them their first lead of the game. And as it turned out, their ONLY lead of the game.

The next time the Raiders got the ball on offense, Carson Palmer threw an interception on the first play. The Cardinals would get a field goal out of it and retake the lead just like that.

Then it was Mike Goodson who fumbled away the ball and the Cardinals would get the ball and score their second touchdown of the day.

Next Raiders offensive possession stalled and they were force to punt. The punt was blocked and returned for another touchdown.

The next Raiders possession, Mike Goodson would fumble again. This time it was due to a hard hit that knocked him out with a chest injury. The Raiders would luckily recover thanks to offensive lineman Mike Brisiel forcing a fumble on the Cardinal player who recovered the original fumble. The Raiders would keep the ball on a long sustained drive that culminate in another field goal to send us to halftime. And thus the 11-24 halftime score.

What a mess.

The second half and the Raiders second team would fare much better. Chimdi Chekwa came up with an interception on the Cardinals' initial drive and with the help of a 12 men on the field penalty on the Raiders punt followed by a 26 yard catch by Juron Criner, the Raiders were able to score their first touchdown of the 2012 preseason. Lonyae Miller pushed up the middle from two yards out to make it 18-24.

The offense was moving again with Leinart at the helm until a late hit to the head from defensive lineman Ricky Lumpkin knocked him out of the game. He also received a lacerated finger that required stitches so he left and was replaced by Terrelle Pryor. The drive ended three plays later and seven yards back from where Pryor took over.

The Raiders defense would get one back from the Cardinals three plays into their next possession when Carl Ihenacho came around the right edge of the line to strip sack the Cardinals' QB and Hall Davis recovered it in the endzone for a defensive touchdown. The extra point was blocked which kept the score tied 24-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

The tie didn't last long though as the Cards would drive down the field on seven plays to score a touchdown and go up 31-24. That was the score in the end.

Four Raider players left the game due to injury. Jacoby Ford (foot sprain), Mike Goodson (weakness in shoulder), Darrius Heyward-Bey (shoulder sprain), and Matt Leinart (finger). No word yet on the severity of any of those injuries. Dennis Allen said he will know more on Saturday.
