The Raiders primary kick and punt returners last season were Jacoby Ford (kicks) and Denarius Moore (punts). But both Moore and Ford have been injured for most of camp so the team had to find replacements. And Dennis Allen revealed after Saturday night's practice that Taiwan Jones will be returning kicks and Phillip Adams will be returning punts in the opener versus the Chargers on Monday night.
The first replacement was easier. Taiwan Jones stepped in for Ford last and had 8 kick returns for 165 yards (20.6 yards per return). Jones is the primary backup at running back and the Raiders would like to get his tremendous speed (4.28 40-yard dash) on the field as often as possible.
The other replacement became Phillip Adams who was recently claimed off waivers from the Seahawks. Adams hasn't had a regular season punt return since 2010 when he returned 4 punts for 29 yards (7.3 yards per return). He had three returns when the Raiders visited Seattle for their final preseason game. He had two kick returns and one return on a Shane Lechler free kick which he returned for 21 yards.
