Greg Papa has been the Raiders radio play-by-play announcer since 1993. He had a tough task taking over for the legendary Bill King as the voice of the Raiders but he was up to the task. He had already taken over for King as the play-by-play voice of the Golden State Warriors in 1986 and Oakland A's in 1989 so by this point, he was the obvious choice.
Given the title of "The Godfather", Papa is the arguably the most trusted voice with regard to the state of the Raiders. Along with his radio play-by-play, he also hosts the show "Behind the Shield" and is a color commentator for all Raiders preseason games alongside former Raiders coach Tom Flores.
He also currently hosts the daily sports talk show "The Wheelhouse" alongside John Lund on the Bay Area Sports Talk station, 95.7 The Game.
As if he wasn't busy enough with the East Bay teams, he has also done work with the San Francisco Giants. On several occasions he has stepped in to call Giants games as well as hosted Giants pregame and postgame shows.
Just to fill in the gaps in his schedule, he calls games for the Cal Bears football and basketball team as well.
He's an obvious choice for this award. If for no other reason than not letting anyone else in the Bay Area call a game.
