Raiders sign OL Jack Cornell, waive DT Brian Sanford

New, comments

Just as Dennis Allen said the Raiders would do, they have called up practice squad offensive lineman, Jack Cornell, to the active roster in time for their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Allen said if right tackle Tony Pashos and guard/center Andre Gurode were not healthy this week that the team would be adding Cornell so the team would have at least one backup at the tackle spot. Cornell had been called up to the active roster two weeks ago when the team played the Chiefs and was cut the day after and then added back to the practice squad. The only question really was who the team would waive to make room on the roster.

That player turned out to be defensive lineman Brian Sanford. The team has great depth along the defensive line even with the release of Christo Bilukidi earlier in the week so the move made some sense. Sanford has been on the roster since late in training camp. He was active for five games this season with one start at defensive end.
