Al Davis Memorial Combine Freaks: Running Back

New, comments

Now we move to the offensive backfield to find the best athletes among the running backs in the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine.

USA TODAY Sports

For Al Davis, finding the best athletes in football was not limited to a few positions. He wanted to dominate in that area you can't teach - athleticism. One such athlete was Darren McFadden who blazed through the combine in 2008 to cement himself as the Raiders' selection with the 4th overall pick.

The interesting thing about the year McFadden became the Raiders pick was that was the same combine Chris Johnson set a new record by running a 4.24 40-yard dash. The Raiders saw McFadden's 4.33 40-yard dash as plenty good enough when combined with his accolades at Arkansas. Chris Johnson was taken midway through the first round out of East Carolina.

Here are those vying to be this year's RunDMC's and CJ2K's:

Onterio McCalebb - Best 40-yard dash (4.34),

Knile Davis - 2nd in 40-yard dash (4.37), 2nd in bench press (31)

Kerwynn Williams - 3rd in 40-yard dash (4.48), 5th in 20-yard shuttle

Johnathan Franklin - 4th in 40-yard dash (4.49), Best in 60-yard shuttle (11.33)

Michael Ford - 5th in 40-yard dash (4.50), 3rd in vertical leap (38.5), Best broad jump (10'10"), 4th in 60-yard shuttle (11.43)

Christine Michael - Best 20-yard shuttle (4.02), Best 3-cone (6.69), Best Vertical leap (43.0), 2nd in broad jump (10'5"), 4th in bench press (27)
