Free Agent LB Kaluka Maiava visiting Raiders

New, comments

Browns free agent linebacker, Kaluka Maiava, is on his way to visit the Raiders according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

The Raiders need linebackers. Many linebackers. They have just one sure returning starter in second year linebacker, Miles Burris. They would also like to re-sign Philip Wheeler although he officially became an unrestricted free agent as of 1pm Pacific time today.

Maiava played the last four seasons with the Cleveland Browns as at outside linebacker. He started 13 games at weakside linebacker last season for the Browns. He totaled a career high 53 combined tackles, 2.0 sacks, 3 passes defended, and 2 forced fumbles. He is phased out in Cleveland with the team switching to a 3-4 defense.

The 25 year old was a 4th round pick in 2009 out of USC.

If signed, the 5-11, 226 pound linebacker would be expected to compete with Miles Burris at weakside linebacker. He would at very least offer solid depth at a position that doesn't even have three starters, let alone backups behind them.
