Raiders select Latavius Murray with the the 181st overall pick

New, comments

Oakland's second pick in the 6th round at pick number 181 has been selected and that player is Latavius Murray, RB out of the University of Central Florida.

Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Latavius Murray is a 6'3 223LB running back that ran a 4.39 40 yard dash at Central Florida's Pro Day. He adds a running back with good speed to the Raiders roster. He is also strong with 22 bench presses at 225 lbs. Gil Brandt referred to him as a hot prospect that would definitely be drafted after his Pro Day performance.

The Raiders already have Darren McFadden, Taiwan Jones, Jeremy Stewart, and Rashad Jennings at the running back position so Murray will have to work hard to make the opening day roster, as most 6th round picks should expect to do.

Murray led Conference USA with his 100.5 yard per game average and his 15 touchdowns in 2012. He had gained over 1100 yards despite having missed 3 games to achieve that average. He played against subpar competition in Conference USA but still he gave more than enough reason for NFL scouts to pay attention to him.

Another aspect that he brings to this team is the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield with 50 receptions for 524 yards in his career at Central Florida. He has speed and strength which should help him play special teams since if he makes the team he will have to make a statement in that unit.

Don't forget about Alfred Morris of the Washington Redskins who was picked in the 6th round of last year's draft who went out and had an outstanding rookie season. Latavius Murray might be a little known player picked in the 6th round right now, but who knows what he will be when his career in the NFL is over.
