Reggie McKenzie reaches into his alma mater and grabs the All-SEC AP second-team tight end Mychal Rivera. He had attended the Tennessee Pro Day where he saw him work out personally.
Rivera caught 36 passes last season for 562 yards which is a new single-season record for a Tennessee tight end. Jason Witten had the previous record of 493 yards set back in 2002. Rivera also added 5 touchdowns.
One of Rivera's more surprising stats is finishing out his career at Tennessee with catches in 18 consecutive games. Not surprisingly, Rivera is known for having terrific hands. Where he lacks is his size (6-3, 237) and speed (4.8 40-yard dash).
His blocking is suspect but he draws comparisons to the Patriots Aaron Hernandez so obviously, if used properly, he could be valuable.
Rivera was in the Pro Bowl for the South team where he caught passes from Raiders new quarterback, Tyler Wilson who the team drafted in round 4. The Raiders acquired the 184 pick when they traded down from 176 and picked up pick 233 in 7th round.
Interesting fact is he is the brother of "Glee" star Naya Rivera.
