Charles Woodson confirms fans played a role in his decision

New, comments

The fans already knew that their presence at the facilities yesterday played a role in Charles Woodson signing with the Raiders. Now he has just confirmed it.

It wasn't hard to see the effect that the crowd had yesterday at the Raiders Headquarters. That was a welcoming of epic proportions for the Raider legend Charles Woodson and it did not go unnoticed by the man himself. He knew it was a possibility, but he didn't know how big it would end up being in reality.

"Yeah, I had gotten word that they were going to do it. I didn't know if it was a fact that it was going to be done, but I got word it was going to happen."

After witnessing the event that was taking place in his honor Woodson didn't even really know what to say about it. Charles is incrediby charimastic and always seems to know what to say but even he was overwhelmed by it all.

"I'll tell you, man, it was overwhelming. I think that if at any time I'd ever forgotten what the love was like in Oakland, I was definitely reminded yesterday."

This is an interesting quote to look at it because I think in a way he was saying that he did forget how much love there was in Oakland for him. I mean he knew and that is why he was interested about maybe coming back, but his mind wasn't able to really visualize the amount of emotion that he would feel. It is like seeing your loved one after they were gone for a few months; you remember there beauty but it still shocks you all over again to see it so much more vibrant in reality than your mind was able to recreate.

Once he felt that old feeling of the fans in Oakland there was no denying that it was a force to be reconed with. It didn't hurt that the money and playing time were the best fit for him as well but the fans were a driving force in this decision. Even if only by fear!

"Oh, I think it played a big part. I think I was actually scared of leaving the facility and not having a deal done. I don't know if I would have made it out of there. But that was a big deal, and receiving that kind of welcome, it definitely put me in a mindset that it would be a good decision to make it happen."

He is obviously joking about fearing the fans outside if he were to pass on the offer to join, but there is still some truth to that kidding. That was a lot of fans that were up beat and happy, but if that scene had turned sour it could have been a large amount of nastiness.

Luckily there was no need to fear, Charles Woodson had signed on to stay here.
