The Raiders officially waived second-year linebacker Mario Kurn Monday. Kurn spent all of last season on the team's injured reserve list after he was signed as an undrafted free agent out of University of San Diego.
He was signed by the team after having led all of FCS college football with 17 sacks in 2010.
Kurn injured his knee in training camp last season prior to the team's first preseason game. He was placed on injured reserve a few days later and never played a down for the team even in the preseason.
With the rebuilt linebacking corps for the Raiders, he was brought back as he was still under his original undrafted rookie contract from camp last year.
He had yet to participate in practices this off-season for unknown reasons. His release obviously opens a much needed roster spot. Let the games begin deciding who the team will sign to fill it.
