Matt Flynn has had a new target the past couple days - Brice Butler. After he had been Matt McGloin's favorite target in the Raiders preseason opener, and often times Terrelle Pryor's favorite target in practice, he has moved up the depth chart and is now seeing quite a few more passes from Flynn with the first team.
The result was the best connection of practice today. One in which Butler got behind the defense deep and Flynn threw a perfect pass to him. It was reminiscent of the long touchdown pass in the game except Butler didn't have to lay out for this one. He will continue to earn first team reps with this kind of play and we could see him run with the first team on Friday as well.
This isn't necessarily a demotion for anyone else... yet. Denarius Moore and Rod Streater are still the starters. But Jacoby Ford and Juron Criner were both out with injuries and the team looked to Butler as the next man up. And the way this seventh round rookie is grabbing onto the job could very well mean he moves ahead of Ford and/or Criner even when/if they do return from injury.
