The Raiders announced today they have signed free agent DT Ryan Baker who worked out for the team following practice Sunday.
The 6-5, 302 pound defensive lineman played defensive end for the Dolphins the past four seasons but translates to defensive tackle in the Raiders 4-3 base scheme. He has appeared in 17 games with no starts over those four seasons in Miami. He was originally an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2009.
His career totals include seven tackles (five solo), a half-sack and one pass defended.
To create space on the roster, the Raiders waived/injured NT Johnny Jones who had been injured for most of the training camp.
The addition of Baker gives the Raiders three healthy defensive tackles. They had signed free agent defensive tackle Myles Wade last week but he lasted just one day before going out with an injury. Vance Walker and Stacy McGee had returned to practice for one day but then returned to join the injured. This made an defensive tackle addition a must.
