Despite four TD game Derek Carr not among nominees for Rookie of the Week

The nominees for Pepsi Rookie of the Week came out Tuesday. There were five rookies nominated. None of whom were named Derek Carr. The reason that seems odd is considering Carr threw for 282 yards and four touchdowns and one interception last week with a pass rating of 107.7. A pretty good week for any player, let alone a rookie.

Those rookies nominated ahead of Carr were as follows:

Branden Oliver, RB, Chargers -- Put up 101 yards and a touchdown on the Raiders. His TD came from one yard out. But let's be honest, that offense begins and ends with Philip Rivers.

Davante Adams, WR, Packers -- Derek Carr gets beat out for a nomination by his number one college target who had six catches for 77 yards. That's it. No touchdowns.

Isaiah Crowell, RB, Browns -- Had 11 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown. Hm, 77 yards and a TD sounds familiar. Oh yeah, that's what Derek Carr had on his first completion alone against the Chargers.

Bradley Roby, S, Broncos -- He makes it in this week with three solo tackles, a sack, and two passes defended. Minus the sack, those were the exact numbers Raiders seventh round rookie corner T.J. Carrie put up against the Chargers. But Carrie also was outstanding returning kicks and punts. Who knew a single sack was so valuable?

Dontae Johnson, S, 49ers -- Had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 31-17 win over the Jets. So, third string QB Austin Davis threw a pick six. And the 49ers beat the one-win Rams. I'm still waiting for the outstanding accomplishment here.

One thing all these players have in common is their team won. I was not aware that to have a good game as a rookie your team must win. Got it. It's like the Heisman. Because great college athletes only come from National Championship programs. So, it would appear Khalil Mack and Derek Carr should just put any thoughts of being considered for Rookie of the Year out of their mind right now.
