According to multiple reports the Raiders have claimed second year wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins off waivers from the Patriots. He will fill the vacant roster spot when the team placed wide receiver Rod Streater on IR Designated for return.
This despite already having five receivers on the roster including recently signed Vincent Brown, formerly of the Chargers. Thompkins' addition gives the Raiders six wide receivers along with James Jones, Andre Holmes, Denarius Moore, Brice Butler, and Vincent Brown.
Thompkins went undrafted out of Cincinatti last season. He started eight games as a rookie and caught 32 passes for 466 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Patriots last season. He appeared in two games this season with one start, pulling in 6 catches for 53 yards. He was buried on the depth chart in New England and they moved on from him. His final game came against the Raiders in week three in which he had one catch for 16 yards.
This is an example of just trying to try and collect as much talent as possible to find what works, because with the Raiders offense ranked 32 in both yards and points, it clearly hasn't worked yet this season.
