No sooner did the Raiders become in desperate need for the services of reserve linebacker, Kaluka Maiava, but he is lost for the season. He went down with a hamstring injury in the team's week four loss to the Miami Dolphins and now according to Yahoo Sports' Rand Getlin, Maiava has been placed on injured reserve.
This is the second consecutive season Maiava has been placed on injured reserve since the sixth-year linebacker signed a 3-year deal with the team prior to last season. Last season he appeared in nine games before being lost to a rib injury on November 28 and was placed on injured reserve a week later.
Maiava initially suffered the hamstring injury on the first day of camp and didn't return to the practice field until the final day of training camp in Napa. He appears to have re-aggravated the injury. With the injuries at the linebacker position to Nick Roach and Sio Moore, Maiava was forced into service as a starter the past two weeks.
Now the Raiders must scramble to fill his spot on the roster. They had already called up undrafted rookie Bojay Filimoeatu from the practice squad so now they must look elsewhere to fill it.
