Raiders safety Charles Woodson was honored this week as AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a win over the Kansas City Chiefs Thursday Night.
In the game he had 9 tackles with one pass defended and a sack. He became the first player in NFL history to record over 50 interceptions (54) and 20 sacks. He also had a tackle for loss on the first third down of the game to stop Jamaal Charles for a nine-yard loss.
This is the sixth time Woodson has won the Player of the Week award. That's second among active defensive backs behind Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.
The 38-year old was coming off a fantastic performance against the Chargers just five days earlier in which he recorded a combined 14 tackles (11 solo). But he had an interception slip through his hands that could have won the game and they like to give out Players of the Week honors to those on the winning side of things. So, consider this honor a bit from this week and a bit from last. It has been a great couple weeks for the future Hall of Famer.
