The Raiders made the expected roster move today in activating tight end Scott Simonson from the practice squad. It was expected due to Brian Leonhardt being out with a concussion. It meant the Raiders were down to just Mychal Rivera at tight end and on such short notice, Simonson was really their only option as someone who could step in right away.

Simonson is an undrafted rookie out of Assumption College. This will be his first game activated to the Raiders regular season roster. He will replace Leonhardt as the team's primary blocking tight end.

To clear a roster spot, the team placed Jonathan Dowling on injured reserve. He was the Raiders' final draft pick at the end of the seventh round out of Western Kentucky. Dowling had been out the past few weeks with a back injury. When he was healthy he had primarily seen action on special teams.
