Derek Carr had his best game of the year this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers, and he played so well that he has been nominated for an award for his performance. Each week NFL.com and Pepsi hand out an award to the most outstanding rookie of the week and Derek Carr has made the cut.
He completed 22 of 28 passes for 254 yards and 3 touchdowns while also not turning the ball over. Those are great stats for any player, let alone a rookie QB. His 140.7 QB rating was the best that a Raiders QB has seen since Rich Gannon retired too.
There is a really good chance that he will take home this week's award considering the size of the upset against the 49ers. However, he won't win if he doesn't get enough votes to. Head over to the NFL.com homepage and scroll down until you see where to vote and then do your part to get Derek Carr his well deserved rookie of the week award. These are meaningful awards by themselves but they also can come into play for evaluating who should win Rookie of the Year honors too.
I'm a Coca-Cola guy myself, but if he does win the award I might just go out and buy some Pepsi to celebrate!
