The Raiders have joined the many NFL teams this off-season in signing a CFL star today. The team officially announced they have signed running back Kory Sheets.
As far as current CFL stars go, they don't get much bigger than Sheets who was named Grey Cup MVP for the CFL Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders. He now goes from the Riders to the Raiders.
This is a return to the Bay Area for Sheets who began his professional football career as an undrafted free agent signee of the San Francisco 49ers.
The 2013 CFL All Star played at Purdue. He spent training camp with the 49ers and was pretty popular among the fans, but didn't make the final roster. He later signed with the Dolphins where he had his one NFL carry in his two seasons in the league. It went for five yards. The last team he played for was the Carolina Panthers in 2011.
He found his opportunity in the CFL, racking up 2,875 yards and 23 touchdowns over two seasons including nearly 1600 yards last season. His 20 carries for 197 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team to the Grey Cup is no doubt what got the Raiders attention.
