NFL free agency first wave live blog, open thread

The blog will be updated as free agent news is released.

USA TODAY Sports

Free agency kicks off at 1:00pm Pacific Time (4pm ET). Once the clock strikes 1pm, the flood gates will be opened and the first wave of signings will go down. Beforehand, be sure and check out our Raiders free agency primer to get up to speed.

For the Raiders' part, they have several free agents looking to be headed elsewhere. Their top two free agents are Jared Veldheer and Lamarr Houston who have both been reported as having found new homes. Veldheer is said to have agreed with the Cardinals and Houston is said to be headed to Chicago to join the Bears.

Darren McFadden is said to have received some interest on the market. It will be interesting to see if he ends up in Cincinnati as I have long thought he would.

The Raiders have been talking with one outside free agent. That's Rodger Saffold who they have pegged to replace Jared Veldheer. They have also been talking with one of their own -- running back Rashad Jennings.

Other Raiders free agents the team could consider bringing back are cornerback Tracy Porter, defensive tackle Pat Sims, safety Charles Woodson, safety Usama Young, and offensive tackle Tony Pashos.

Tick, tock... Boom!

Raiders wasted no time in immediately signing offensive tackle Rodger Saffold who they hope can replace Jared Veldheer who signed with the Arizona Cardinals simultaneously as free agency began.

Lamarr Houston also signed with the Bears right as free agency started as was expected. The Raiders have no replacement for him at a position they already were incredibly weak. Now instead of a desperate need at one defensive end position, they have desperate need at BOTH positions. Houston also signed for a meager $7 million per season which the Raiders should damn well have outdone.

So, within minutes (seconds even) into free agency, the Raiders two best players are gone.

The Colts have signed defensive tackle Arthur Jones.
