Raiders mandatory minicamp starts today: What to watch for

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Raiders' three-day mandatory minicamp starts today. It is the first and last mandatory practices these players will attend until training camp starts on July 24.

Practice begins at 2:10pm Pacific time and goes until 4:15pm with Dennis Allen addressing the media immediately following practice.

The Raiders have had full attendance through  most of OTA practices so there's no reason not to believe that will continue now that the practices are no longer voluntary. As far as who practices will depend on who's healthy.

Those who were injured as of last week include Antonio Smith, Lucas Nix, D.J. Hayden, and Kevin Burnett. Whether they are practicing today is the primary thing to watch for today.

As far as on-field work, there are some position battles that were brewing last week.

If Kevin Burnett returns to practice, it will be interesting to see where he lines up and whose spot he takes. Khalil Mack was working with the first team at strongside linebacker last week with Sio Moore manning the weakside.

Derek Carr was taking some snaps with the second team as he and Matt McGloin were sharing those reps.

Andre Holmes is getting a lot of work and it appeared that he and Denarius Moore are in a real competition for the team's third receiver job. We'll see how that continues to shape up.

Gabe Jackson was taking some snaps from Khalif Barnes with the first team at left guard.

I will be tweeting updates from Raiders practice up until the Twitter and photography blackout time which is right about the time they get into team session. But until then, if you would like to keep up, click the button below.
