The downtime has officially began. The organized training activities and minicamps are over and even the Rookie Symposium is done. As we get in gear for our coverage during the downtime, we are also gearing up for training camp. To kick it off, I bring you my projected training camp depth chart.
This chart is based off of various observations during OTA's, minicamp, and otherwise. I expect much of this to change as training camp and preseason moves along and player performances dictate where they stand come the beginning of the season.
Here is the offense:
QB | Matt Schaub | Derek Carr | Matt McGloin | Trent Edwards
RB | Darren McFadden | Maurice Jones-Drew | Jeremy Stewart | Kory Sheets | Latavius Murray | George Atkinson III |
FB | Marcel Reece | Jamize Olawale | Karl Williams
WR | James Jones | Rod Streater | Greg Little | Brice Butler | Mike Davis | Seth Roberts |
WR2 | Denarius Moore | Andre Holmes | Greg Jenkins | Juron Criner | Rahsaan Vaughn
TE | David Ausberry | Mychal Rivera | Nick Kasa | Brian Leonhardt | Jake Murphy | Scott Simonson |
LT | Donald Penn | Jack Cornell | Emmett Cleary
RT | Menelik Watson | Matt McCants | Danny Kistler | Erle Ladson
LG | Khalif Barnes | Gabe Jackson | Lamar Mady | Lucas Nix
RG | Austin Howard | Tony Bergstrom | Jarrod Shaw
C | Stefen Wisniewski | Kevin Boothe |
Dennis Allen has said several times with regard to the depth chart "I wouldn't read too much into that." The one position on offense I would certainly use that philosophy is the wide receivers. The top five receivers have been interchangeable as the Raiders give them all an equal shot at proving they deserve to start. That competition will play out well into camp.
