Just yesterday, the prognosis for Marcel Reece looked bleak. The Pro Bowl fullback was wearing a walking boot and his return date was unknown. The last guy the Raiders had in a walking boot was D.J. Hayden who, after leaving in the first week of OTA's in May, has yet to return to the field some three months later. So, you can understand the concern.
Monday after practice, Dennis Allen said Reece would be receiving an MRI on his foot to diagnose the damage.
"Well, I don't think we know exactly what the injury is right now," said Allen. "We're going through the process of trying to determine exactly what he's got going on there. He did not practice today. We'll see where he's at for the game. . .He's going to have an MRI."
The results of that MRI appear to have been negative because just like that, Reece is out of the walking boot and back on the field practicing with his teammates as noted by media present at practice.
Dennis Allen confirmed following practice that Reece did indeed pass his MRI.
"Yeah, he was back out there working on a limited basis today," said Allen. "We'll kinda monitor him on a day by day basis but it was good that he was able to get back out and get some work."
This is very good news for the Raiders. Reece is one of the team's better weapons. Even though it typically seems like he is underutilized, just the threat he poses is one opposing defenses must account for.
There were more updates to the team's injury list:
Wide receiver Brice Butler and tight end Scott Simonson were both back at practice from their concussions.
Also returning to practice was wide receiver Juron Criner who had been out since early last week with a hip injury.
Defensive tackle Justin Ellis has yet to return from the concussion he suffered in the first preseason game. He has now been out 11 days.
Offensive tackle Matt McCants is still not practicing after suffering a concussion in the team's second preseason game against the Lions last Friday.
Taiwan Jones is not practicing with an unknown injury. He didn't play in the second preseason game with an undisclosed injury. Dennis Allen said of Jones "He's a little banged up right now, so we're kind of holding him out, trying to get him healthy and ready for the regular season."
Cornerback Chimdi Chekwa (knee) is also still out and is not expected back until the season opener. Neiko Thorpe is also still out.
The PUP list still consists of D.J. Hayden and Lucas Nix, both of whom have been on the PUP list since the beginning of training camp.
