The Raiders got some mixed news in practice today on the injury front. While Matt Schaub was not practicing with elbow soreness along with several others who were recovering from injuries sustained in Friday's preseason game, they also got some players back.
After missing two weeks of practices and two preseason games, fourth round pick defensive tackle Justin Ellis was back. He suffered a concussion in the team's first preseason game in Minnesota and hadn't seen the field since. He returns just in time to get a full week of practice as he is expected to play extensive minutes in the team's final preseason game against the Seahawks.
The Raiders got pretty banged up against the Packers on Friday. Among those leaving the game with injuries were Sio Moore (neck), Kory Sheets (achilles), Nick Roach (concussion), Tarell Brown (concussion), and Menelik Watson (hip).
Of those players, only Tarell Brown returned to practice.
Also returning from the concussion he received in the team's second preseason game was offensive tackle Matt McCants.
Working out with trainers for the first time since he had a procedure done on his knee was tight end David Ausberry. Dennis Allen seems optimistic he could return sooner than later.
"He's doing better, he's getting closer," Allen said of Ausberry. "He was able to get out on the field and do a little bit of field work, so that's a step in the right direction. Hopefully he'll get better and be able to be out there pretty soon."
Dennis Allen also said there was a chance D.J. Hayden could return to practice this week.
"There’s a chance. Whether he is or not, I don’t know the answer to that. I talked to him today and he said he had a good day out on the field today. So, we’ll see."
Taiwan Jones was also seen working with trainers at practice.
