Raiders roster cuts 2014: So much for waiting for deadline, DJ Hayden put on PUP

Welp, it was announced today that DJ Hayden has been placed on the PUP list to start the 2014 season. This means he will be out for at least the first six weeks of this season. The announcement comes along with the first round of roster cuts to get the team down to the mandated 75 players. This despite Dennis Allen saying just yesterday the team would be waiting until the final roster cutdown date on August 30.

"We're going to push it all the way up until the deadline, until we find out exactly where he is," Dennis Allen said Monday. "So, we'll wait and see what we have to do on that."

The reasoning behind the Raiders supposedly waiting for the last possible time was the apparent progress Hayden was making working with trainers. But even then, there was a sense that Hayden's apparent progress was not indicative of what the trainers were saying about his status.

"I watched him out there moving around with the trainers today, he looked a lot better," said Allen. "But that's one of those things you kinda, you visit with the trainers every day and find out how he did each particular day. He's making progress, that's for sure."

Hayden will be eligible to return for the October 19 game in Oakland against the Cardinals.

Along with Hayden heading to the PUP list, the Raiders also made seven other moves to get down to the 75-player limit.
