Schaub had been out lately with a sore elbow and Dennis Allen had said he was waiting for today's practice to see if Schaub would be healthy and ready to go for the opener in New York. Schaub is practicing today.
In the mean time, Carr had a fantastic outing in the team's preseason finale against the Seahawks in which he threw three touchown passes and finished with a 152.1 passer rating.
The rookie round two pick's performance instantly sparked a quarterback controversy, much like the one the Raiders had last year when then starter Matt Flynn was out with his sore elbow, prompting the team to name Terrelle Pryor the starter for the season opener.
Schaub, like Flynn, was also acquired during an off-season trade.
This was undoubtedly a tough spot for Dennis Allen to be in but if he had gone with Schaub, he likely would have weathered far more criticism than sitting him in favor of Carr.
Schaub is now an $8 million backup.
