There were two big injury questions coming into today's practice. Would Schaub be back from his sore elbow? And would David Ausberry be back from his knee procedure? Turns out both were a yes.
For Schaub's part, his return from his elbow soreness was supposed mean the return of his starting job. That's not how it happened. While he was away, Derek Carr showed up big time and took his job from him. So, his health turned out to be a non-factor in the end as he was back throwing but it was with the second team.
As for Ausberry, he suffered a knee injury during camp that caused him to have a procedure done. He was working out on the side last week and Dennis Allen said then that he hoped Ausberry would be back this week. He was indeed out there which, even if he wasn't full go, should signal he won't need to go on partial season IR which seemed to be a real possibility just last week.
"He moved around," Allen said of Ausberry. "We practiced him on a limited basis. I haven't had a chance to visit with him after practice but from what I saw in practice, I looked like he moved around pretty well."
Nick Roach was still not practicing with the concussion he received in the team's preseason game in Green Bay.
Things continue to be uncertain with regard to Chimdi Chekwa and Taiwan Jones, both of whom are not practicing as they recover from knee injuries.
Tuesday is the first official day of game week preparation and with that comes the first official injury report. That's when we will get a better idea of the status of guys like Roach, Chekwa, and Taiwan Jones. Taking the practice field would also help iron out their status.
