No sooner did Taiwan Jones come back from a knee strain that had him out most of the preseason, but he went down in the opener against the Jets with a foot injury. The injury is serious enough he will be placed on injured reserve, Dennis Allen announced Friday.
Jones was supposed to be the team's primary kick returner this season but with his missing so much time, the team has turned backup running back, Latavius Murray for those duties. Jones was also the team best gunner, a role another special teamer will have to step up and fill.
In a corresponding move, the team has called up linebacker Bojay Filimoeatu from the practice squad. The Raiders are suddenly thin at linebacker with Nick Roach still suffering symptoms from a concussion he received in the third week of the preseason and Kaluka Maiava not practicing this week with an illness.
Filimoeatu tried out for the Raiders in rookie minicamp as an undrafted rookie out of Utah State. He was a standout player for the Raiders in preseason, earning a spot on the practice squad. The 6-1, 258-pounder was out of football last season after suffering a knee injury in the 2013 Casino Del Sol College All Star game.
