Observations:
This depth chart still has Menelik Watson starting at right tackle with Khalif Barnes at left guard. As we know the depth chart heading into the Jets game will have Barnes starting at right tackle with Gabe Jackson at left guard.
Matt McCants is listed as the swing tackle. With Watson as the backup, he is expected to be the swing tackle.
David Ausberry remains listed as the starter and Dennis Allen said Tuesday that all signs point to him being ready for the opener.
Newly signed Benson Mayowa is listed as the third string left defensive end behind Lamarr Woodley and rookie Shelby Harris while Khalil Mack has no backup at strong side linebacker. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mayowa were to eventually step into that backup SLB spot. For the time being Sio Moore would back up that position with Miles Burris stepping up to start on the weak side in that instance.
Chimdi Chekwa has not practiced and his status for Sunday's game is in doubt. Next up on the depth chart is seventh round rookie cornerback, T.J. Carrie. He has jumped ahead of fellow rookie fourth round pick, Keith McGill. Dennis Allen confirmed today that Carrie will be the team's third corner. Carrie would come into the game in the nickel defense and take over on the boundary with Carlos Rogers moving inside to the slot.
Jonathan Dowling, who was listed as a strong safety by the Raiders when they drafted him, is now the backup free safety. It was previously Usama Young, who is now the backup strong safety. Last year's starter, Brandian Ross, was released with the final cutdowns.
While TJ Carrie will be the nickel corner, he is also the team's primary punt returner. He earned it with two big punt returns this preseason of 50 and 45 yards.
