Derek Carr beat out Matt Schaub for the starting QB job in Oakland to start the season, and now Schaub isn't even going to be the back up QB this week. He has been listed as OUT for the upcoming game against the New England Patriots, with Matt McGloin taking over the QB2 duties.
Realistically, McGloin probably should have been the back up out of the gate even though he is only a 2nd year player compared to a multi-year veteran in Schaub. McGloin is a talented QB in his own rite and has shown capable of holding his own when his number has been called. Schaub on the other hand has not shown that he can consistently make plays down field.
It's uncertain why exactly Schaub is inactive.
UPDATE:
Schaub made the trip here to Boston with the team but had an emergency come up
