The Raiders were dealt a massive blow to their secondary with the injury to Tyvon Branch. He has broken his foot and will need season-ending foot surgery, the second consecutive year during which his season has been ended by a foot injury.
To replace him, Oakland has signed a familiar face- safety Brandian Ross, who had been with Miami and played in last week's game against the Chiefs after being placed on waivers by Oakland following the preseason.
Ross was initially going to travel to London for the game with the Dolphins on Friday, but now he will be heading across the pond a day early as a member of the Raiders to face his former team.
The safety, who had started 14 games last season in relief of Branch. He is more familiar with Jason Tarver's defensive schemes than any other bum the Raiders might have pulled off the street to bolster their defense, which has injuries at nearly every position. While Usama Young is expected to start at strong safety, Ross will offer depth and could see action in England on Sunday.
