Former Raiders head coach Dennis Allen gets his first interview for Giants

It's been a while since we have heard anything from former Raiders head coach, Dennis Allen. He was fired by the team after week 4 of last season and his name hadn't come up for any jobs until today. He is now said to have landed an interview with the New York Giants for the vacant Defensive Coordinator position. This according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

The Giants fired former Defensive Coordinator, Perry Fewell after the season and are now looking to fill the position. They have two known interviews set up; one with their former DC Steve Spagnolo and the other with Dennis Allen.

Spagnuolo and Allen were both previous defensive coordinators before being hired as head coaches. They each spent three seasons as head coach -- Spagnuolo with the Rams (2009-11) and Allen with the Raiders (2012-14).

Allen spent just one season as a defensive coordinator in the NFL before the Raiders hired him as head coach. He was the DC in Denver where his defense was the 24th ranked in the league. When he left, he was replaced by Jack Del Rio. The same guy who interviewed with the Raiders today to become their next head coach.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin will be very much on the hotseat this coming season. If the Giants can't pull out of their funk that has had them miss the playoffs the past three seasons, he'll be out along with his staff. A lot of defensive coordinator candidates will not be too keen on jumping into that situation. Certainly unlikely to see any current position coach eager to take that job. Something Allen doesn't have to worry about because he is currently unemployed.

There are several other coaching staffs which have not found a head coach yet including the 49ers, Bears, Jets, and Falcons which means those teams will also need to fill out their staffs. We'll see how much consideration Dennis Allen gets in those searches.
