Raiders set to interview Jack Del Rio for head coaching position

Among the top candidates for the Raiders head coaching positions is former Jaguars head coach and current Broncos defensive coordinator, Jack Del Rio. Mark Davis sought out Del Rio last Sunday when the Raiders played the Broncos in Denver and the two spoke on the field. It was expected he would be interviewed for the position and according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, that interview is set to happen today.

The Broncos have a first round bye and reconvene Sunday to begin practices for their second round playoff game next week. That means the current window to speak with Del Rio ends today.

Mark Davis has been focusing lately on head coaching candidates with previous head coaching experience. Among those who have or will interview are former Browns head coach Pat Shurmur and former Jets and Browns head coach, Eric Mangini.

What Del Rio brings is nine years of head coaching experience and when he was fired from the Jacksonville job after the 2011 season, he took over for Dennis Allen as defensive coordinator in Denver.

Aside from his head coaching experience, one of the more attractive aspects about Del Rio is his passion for the Raiders. He grew up in the Bay Area, attended Hayward High School, and his parents still hold season tickets for the Raiders.
