Shortly after the 2014 season ended last week, the Raiders requested to interview Cardinals defensive coordinator, Todd Bowles. That interview will happen this week with the Cardinals being knocked out in the first round of the NFL playoffs.
Bowles became a hot head coaching candidate this season after coaching the Cardinals defense into one of the top defenses in football. At one time they were the number one ranked defense and finished the season 5th in the league in points allowed.
Most candidates the Raiders have requested to interview have had previous head coaching experience. Bowles' only head coaching experience came when he took over as interim head coach for Tony Sparano when he was fired by the Dolphins midseason in 2011. The longtime defensive backs/secondary coach has been an NFL defensive coordinator for the past three seasons for the Eagles (2012) and Cardinals (2013-14).
Bowles has also reportedly received interview requests from the 49ers, Falcons, Bears, and Jets for their head coaching vacancies.
