The votes are in and Raiders defensive lineman Mario Edwards has been named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week. Edwards was all over the field last week against the Vikings and ended up leading the team with 11 tackles (8 solo) and a sack in the game.
Edwards was the Raiders' second round pick in April's draft out of Florida State. He dropped over 20 pounds since his college playing days, bringing him down to 280 pounds which has allowed him to show off his athleticism and showcase his natural talent.
In being named the Rookie of the Week, he beat out several deserving rookies.
Bears RB Jeremy Langford who had 182 total yards (109 receiving, 73 rushing) and two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) in a 37-13 win over the Rams, Washington RB Matt Jones who had 187 total yards (131 receiving, 56 rushing) in a 47-14 win over the Saints, Patriots LB Malcom Brown who recorded seven tackles and a sack in a 27-26 win over the Giants, and Chiefs CB Marcus Peters who had an interception, two tackles and two passes defended a 29-13 win over the Broncos.
